Jens Galschiot

Jens Galschiøt (born June 4 , 1954 in Frederikssund ) was educated as a sheet metal and structural blacksmith at Odense Steel Shipyard in 1973.

Self-taught silversmith and sculptor with his own workshop in Odense since 1985. Galschiøt's studio includes a bronze foundry, exhibition hall, workshop and a sculpture park.

Jens Galschiøt is a very complex artist who moves at the intersection between installation art and Street Art with clear references to "social sculpture" ( Joseph Beuys ), Symbolism and Art Nouveau .

Jens Galschiøt primarily works to combat world injustices by installing sculptures in major cities around the world. The sculptures are mostly created in bronze with his own funds.

Jens Galschøit and AIDOH became world-renowned for their actions at major events. In connection with the climate summit in Copenhagen in December 2009, Galschiøt installed a sculpture, Survival of the Fattest , next to The Little Mermaid .

Galschiøt has made sculpture installations in many places. Among others, the installation of the 22-ton " My Inner Pig Dog " (1993) and sculptures in Europe (illegal street art). In 2018, Jens Galschiøt made 5 bronze sculptures of Nelson Mandela, which were named "Spirit of Mandela". The sculpture is 59 cm high.

2 are privately owned in Denmark, 1 is owned by Nelson Mandela's eldest daughter Zenani Mandela, 1 is for Barack Obama and 1 will be auctioned in 2022.
