Sys Svinding's work can be identified with stone, especially granite and diabase, and a closer look at her work shows the wealth of sculptural possibilities that are exploited and explored in ever new ways. With the stone and its special material character, she emphasizes various aspects of its natural and cultural history; in the low horizontal sculptures the landscape is present, while the vertical ones point to a statuary tradition and still others to our common motific heritage, the gate, the house, the boat, the axe, etc. It is characteristic of Sys Svinding's sculpture that it always fluctuates between the presence of material and artistic form, between perfect stylization and the personal language and signature.
